“Listening to Sun Mee’s voice made me feel held instantly.”—Carla, Adopted from Korea
As a Korean adopte with an upbringing in Germany, I know what it feels like to live in the in-between—to search for home, identity, and belonging outside of yourself.
At 18, I looked in the mirror and began asking deeper questions: Who am I? Where do I belong? And what parts of me did I abandon in order to feel safe? Coming out of the fog and waking up to the trauma of separation from my origin made me realize how disconnected I had been from my inner world, my emotions, and my authentic self.
For years, I searched for healing through books, self-help, and various spiritual and movement practices. Therapy supported me, but I still felt stuck in my mind. It was through mindfulness, trauma-sensitive somatic practices, journaling, creative expression, and compassionate inquiry that I began to experience real shifts in my emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing.
Connecting with fellow adoptees changed everything. Being seen, validated, and understood in my adoptee experience helped me heal in ways I could not have reached alone. Through local and global adoptee communities, I found deeper self-understanding, connection, and belonging.
That journey led me to expand my training in mindfulness, mind-body modalities, and Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy, and to found NUMARU—a holistic healing space and supportive community for BIPOC+TRansracial adoptees.
Today, I support adoptees through a multidisciplinary approach that blends somatic experiencing, mindfulness, creative self-exploration, and honest community connection. I also collaborate internationally with NGOs, Korean associations, and fellow adoptee space holders.
NUMARU is the space I once needed myself—grounded, empowering, and made to help adoptees feel more whole, connected, and at home within themselves.
